“Re-elected unopposed”- limited competition in International Federation elections

A new I Trust Sport article has been published by Play the Game about the limited competition in many of the International Federation presidential elections in 2016. There have been a total of 23 candidates in elections for 12 International Federations this year, compared to 21 contenders for the same organisations in the previous electoral cycle. For seven of the 12 federations there was only one candidate. It is to be hoped that the trend towards the adoption of term limits in international sport continues so that they become the rule rather than the exception.
